Abra Millar, University of Nottingham graduate and Digital Marketing Executive at Hallam Internet, has won the B2B Rising Star Award. The award is presented to junior marketers who have made a real impact in their business.

Maxine-Laurie Marshall, of B2B Marketing, the marketing resource website that hosts the award, explained: "Recognition can go a long way, it gives people a sense of worth in the workplace and encourages others to aspire to the same.

"With this in mind we wanted to recognise those junior-mid level B2B marketers who are pushing boundaries and doing great work in their respective organisations. This year, for the first time, we opened the Rising Stars up to agencies and were inundated with great entrants from both agency and client-side life."

Outstanding Contribution

Abra Millar was nominated for the award by her colleagues in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the business. During her time at Hallam Internet so far, Abra has qualified for her Google Analytics Individual Qualification, created training programmes and a range of guide documents on the topic of link building for search engine optimisation (SEO), and more recently gave training to the full company on the use of SEO management software.

In the nomination, Abra's colleague Laura Hampton explained: "Abra joined Hallam Internet as a graduate with no marketing experience. Despite this, she didn’t wait for Hallam to offer her professional development opportunities. She dedicates her time both in work and outside to developing her skills and her efforts have supported fantastic career progression and made her an instrumental part of the team."

Professional Development

Susan Hallam, Managing Director of Hallam Internet, recruited Abra in February 2013. Of the award, she said: "I am absolutely delighted that Abra's contribution to our business has been recognised with the B2B Rising Stars Award. Since employing her as a trainee in February of 2013, I have seen Abra dedicate herself to developing her skills, learning new skills and supporting the wider team. She is incredibly smart, very hard working and a real self-starter, which makes her an absolute pleasure to work with and as her employer, I couldn't be happier.

She displays the kind of attitude which I believe is imperative at Hallam Internet; she's eager to learn, very passionate about her work and handles herself with real professionalism at all times. Last month, I made the decision to promote Abra from Digital Marketing Trainee to Digital Marketing Executive; she now managers her own clients as well as supporting other members of the team, to extremely positive feedback so far. Professional development is very important in our business as Abra stands as a shining example of what hard work can achieve.

It is also very pleasing to see a member of an SME business like ours recognised alongside the likes of much larger businesses like Experian and Deloitte."

Out of the Ordinary

Abra is one of four agency side marketers to receive this year's award, and joins Vicki Cole of Crafted, Matt Harper of The Marketing Practice and Caroline Promfret of Stein IAS. Client side winners include Kerry Leech of Experian and Abi Rowlands of Deloitte.

On winning the award, Abra said: "It was a real surprise to win the B2B Rising Stars Award - I didn't even know I'd been nominated! I don't consider what I do to be anything out of the ordinary; I just aim to do the best I can in my job. It's amazing to be recognised for this and I'm so grateful to all of my colleagues who nominated me."

Abra is one of a number of new recruits to the business in the past 12 months. As well as another graduate of the University of Nottingham, Hallam Internet has recruited a new business development manager and six new search marketing consultants, with a view to further recruitment in the coming months.
