LONDON (December 9, 2004) – emuse technologies, the world’s leading multiplatform interactive TV application and deployment software developer, has been nominated with ITV for a BAFTA Interactive award for the creation of the interactive element of ITV’s “The Great British Spelling Test”. Tens of thousands of viewers played along live with the contestants and received both instant feedback on their results and the opportunity to win prizes.

emuse has helped take interactive TV to a new level in 2004, with its Modelstream® software allowing producers to create interactive programmes quickly and intuitively. Other emuse applications driving red button technology forward this year included voting on “I’m a Celebrity…. Get Me Out of Here!”, and the creation of many high profile ad campaigns in conjunction with ZipTV. emuse’s value to the British entertainment industry has been confirmed by this BAFTA nomination.

Modelstream® software can now be used to produce interactive television content across every global market. The company announced this week its new Modelstream® Generate version that gives the U.S. access to simplified interactive content creation for the first time across all of its television platforms.

The new software has OpenCable Applications Platform compatibility, which is the U.S. cable industry’s standard middleware platform. Now, content developers, broadcasters and advertisers interested in creating interactive services and content for deployment in the U.S. need only use Modelstream® to simultaneously create applications for multiple middleware, servicing both satellite and cable operators.

This latest platform extension to the Modelstream® Generate suite follows successful U.S. trials held in conjunction with Osmosys, a business created to focus on providing the latest generation of Open Standard Middleware solutions and services for the Interactive TV market, using their OCAP software stack on various hardware manufacturers’ set top boxes. This extension of Modelstream® to support OCAP is the latest product based on the collaboration between emuse and Osmosys, which has already produced comprehensive support for the Multimedia Home Platform (MHP).

“We are delighted to be nominated with ITV for this BAFTA” said Patrick Rainsford CEO emuse “We have recognised the need to have a truly international solution and the decision to release an OCAP compatible version of Modelstream® Generate is a natural extension of our existing MHP capabilities. We invite everyone with a vested interest in creating and evaluating OCAP applications in the U.S. to work with us to stimulate OCAP innovation,”

The OCAP version of Modelstream® Generate is currently being delivered to key clients and is available from emuse technologies’ Los Angeles office. For further information please call +1 310 727 2630.

About OCAP

The OpenCable Applications Platform specification is a middleware software layer specification. OCAP is intended to enable the developers of interactive television services and applications to design such products so that they will run successfully on any cable television system in North America, independent of set-top or television receiver hardware or operating system software choices.

OCAP enables manufacturers and retail distributors of set-tops, television receivers or other devices to build and to sell attractive and capable devices to consumers that will support all services delivered by cable operators to devices currently available to consumers via lease from cable operators.

The issued OCAP 1.0 specification was released in December 2001 and was followed by OCAP 2.0 in April 2002.
