Sky has seen its new text-betting service accrue 10,000 accounts since its December launch.

Sky has staked its claim as the leading interactive TV bookmaker, having seen its new text-betting service accrue 10,000 accounts since its December launch.The betting service is part of an ongoing drive by the broadcaster to develop new revenue streams.

According to a spokesman, 200 new betting accounts are created a day, with an average of 2,500 transactions taking place daily.

Sky, which announced that its user base had risen to 5.25m this week, with 94% of it being digital, is planning to launch a range of new services through Sky Text, including e-commerce and email.

It's also increasing the link between its programming and interactive TV by launching Movies Active, which will give Sky users the chance to preview films, buy tickets and access background content on upcoming films.

This follows on from the recent launches of Sky Sports Extra and Sky News Active.The broadcaster, which will cut off its analogue signal by the middle of this year, will also be rolling out other interactive services in the next few months.
